Measurement by indirect colorimetry

As healthy exercise goes hand in hand with a healthy diet, we included the measurement of resting expenditure using indirect calorimetry in our services. The values you get from the measurement are one of the helpers thanks to which we can help you understand the principles of compiling a healthy diet.

MEASUREMENT, DIET AND EXERCISE

With the help of perfect software, devices and an oxygen mask, we can measure how your metabolism works or ‘burns’ nutrients at rest. The measurement takes place on an empty stomach, ideally as soon as possible after waking up (i.e. in the morning) and lasts approximately 20-30 minutes.

The measurement results will then be discussed with you by a nutritional therapist during a consultation. Based on these results, analysis of your lifestyle, diet and additional anthropometric measurements (like waist, hip circumference), she will, together with you, suggest dietary adjustments and other necessary methods to ensure successful weight loss or appropriate dietary habits under different types of exercise (sports, lifestyle diseases, etc.).

And because no weight loss and muscle gain can be done without exercise, you can also make an appointment with one of our physiotherapists who will prepare a perfect tailor-made exercise plan for you.

If you do not want to use the consultation hours of our nutritional therapist, you can also undergo indirect calorimetry independently, the nurse will discuss the basic concepts of measurement with you immediately after the end and you will take the measurement report for individual use.

Why do you need to have your resting metabolism measured?

Energy intake should be in balance with expenditure. If this is not the case and the intake exceeds the expenditure for a longer period of time, energy is logically stored in the form of fat and weight gain occurs. If your expenditure is higher than your intake (you are an active athlete, you are adapted to diet) or your diet lacks some of the nutrients, you may feel tired, you may lack energy or you may not be able to achieve the desired results. All this can be assessed based on the value of resting metabolism, which best corresponds to the value of basal metabolism - simply put, how much energy your body burns when it just lies and rests.

Why do you need to have your resting metabolism measured?

Who is the measurement suitable for?

For everyone who wants to change something in their diet or physical activity. The measurement results are the basis for a diet plan not only for those who want to lose weight, but also for those who need to gain muscle mass. It is ideal for athletes and also suitable for children (but they must stay at least 20 minutes at rest).

How and where is the measurement of resting metabolism performed?

The measurement takes place with the assistance of a nurse directly in the surgery of the ORP Centrum (Pod Juliskou). It is necessary to come on an empty stomach (do not eat anything, drink alcohol, coffee or smoke anything for 12 hours before the measurement) and do not perform any demanding physical activity 24 hours before the measurement. The measurement itself takes 20 to 30 minutes; count on spending about 45 minutes with us along with the preparation. The measurement also includes anthropometry (weighing, measurement, including bioimpedance). Only bring some snack to eat if you are used to having breakfast in the morning or if you need to maintain a stable sugar level (you are a diabetic). Loose and comfortable clothing is an advantage.
